Oktober Fest varianta romaneasca

Sa va spun ce am facut in week endul trecut?

Let me tell you what we did in the last week end? I went to Oktober Fest, of course!

I wanted to go to Balkanik Festival, but when I got there on Saturday we could not enter but the festival ticket for 2 days, 35 lei, which seemed for me slightly exaggerated. Therefore in protest, I went to parcul Tineretului to Oktober Fest.

Here, in a large rectangular tent has fun Romanian people surrounded of the smoke of hundreds of mici, sausages, pastrami, flavorings kurtosz colac and typical Prusac music.

Of course, as I stood at a short tail for the purchase of some food before going to stroll among beer offers more or less known and thus for the first time I found a pretty good and cheap Russian beer, Baltika. As  am not a beer drinker, but a gourmet eager new sensory experiences, I opted for no alcohol Baltika that delighted me.

The most interesting but difficult road appeared to go, when we crossed with two boxes of typical Bavarian pretzels: a giant marvel that conquered me at once and irrevocably!

Eventually I made a compilation beer / pretzel that kept me all the way home, with the following result:

The next day being Sunday, after a brief tour through the Vitan fair, we decided to honor again and for the last time the new and beautiful gathering from parcul Tineretului.

Said and done! Already knowing the local customs we stood right away to buy the wonderful pretzels, unfortunately did not have, but they said us will have again in about 2 hours.

We've got to work, rectum, on eating, drinking and commented, and all on the harmonies of known military music. My Danutzu managed to enter the atmosphere and to complete with this occasion his collection of mugs of beer with an interesting model.

Luckily at some point there was a gang of musicians who come from a brass band began playing live without feeling a tug at their heart strings against people who fought valiantly against the smoke, micii and cold beer.

Guys sang well and moreover integrated into the atmosphere and so after long deliberation we decided that probably they play at circus where they had done training in making long passages jumping aplomb.

Naturally occurring prezels and so I could port my triumphant day trophy: a new pretzel which was also devoured with some beer variety: Bernard without alcohol, red cherry and plum. A bottle of each kind, do not jump on me!

Oktober Fest I liked, even in the Romanian version ... and I think we shouldn’t do so much mischief to appear hypocritical when many new holiday overseas, life is difficult and complicated enough for us to create new problems discussed with pathos, when it is easier to adopt new holiday and to be glad that we have a new reason to celebrate life and that we still survive as humanly as in spite of all!

In light of this event it was a successful weekend and the next one I cannot wait to come see what I will find new stuff to do! We keep in touch!

Gabor Simon-Koncz (Ungaria / Hungary)

Sotia lui, Petra, o senzationala invatatoare in limba engleza pt clasele pregatitoare, care a lucrat si in Bucuresti la International School of Bucharest (detinuta de niste turci !) se pregateste acum sa deschida o gradinita in limba engleza in orasul natal, Baja.

Today I have as a guest of honor a good friend from Hungary, Gabor, who his family were wonderful neighbors to us for a year (ah, what crazy parties we fire started in the middle of the week...) ... too little from all of us point of view, but as usual, life doesn't take too much care of our preferences, so now they live back home in Budapest, where his culinary talents are exploited into an acclaimed restaurant.

His wife, Petra, a sensational English teacher for preparatory classes, who worked also in Bucharest at the International School of Bucharest (owned by some Turkish!); is now preparing to open an English kindergarten in her hometown, Baja.

And to finish with the presentation of the entire family, the new member, Mirko is a kid of a year and a half old, handsome, happy and of course very spoiled, who probably in a previous life was a successful cowboy!

Gabor was very nice as usual and gave me one of his original recipes as a concept and writing, as follows. Thanks Gabor and for the rest of you, ENJOY!

The favorite of the Drama teacher
Once I cooked the following dish for a drama teacher, who after that has not eaten anything else. After 2 years he has died from one-sided nutrition. His last words were the following:
- I may die now, but it was worth. Thanks.

Lens soup with coconut milk and sausage
Put 0,5 kg lens into 1,5 L water and leave  it for 2-3 hours.
Put it onto the fire; put an onion in it, some bay leaf and salt.
20 minutes after boiling put 5-6 carrots and 2 turnips in it.
If the lens and the carrots are soft enough, put ground cumin, nutmeg, clove, pepper, saffron, thyme, chili, chopped parsley, 2 spoons of mustard, and the crashed peel of a lemon, 3 dcl coconut milk, 6 crashed garlics and sausages.

The father of the young Feodor Mihailovici Dostoievski wanted his son to be a cook.
The boy was a servant in my kitchen, but in case of this soup he always chopped the onions.
When he went to take his cook exam I told him:
- My son, be careful with the lens soup, do not chop the onions. Chopping the onion for the lens soup is a sin for what you will suffer!
He loved this sentence, but did not follow my advice. Of course he failed.
The world became poorer with a cook, but richer with a literature masterpiece!
